Mrs. Irma Christine White Davenport, 92, of Creswell died Monday, August 18, 2008, at Britthaven of Washington.
Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Sadie Caroline Phelps White Spruill and was preceded in death by her husband, Doctrine Franklin Davenport; daughter, Linda Lou Davenport; sisters, Virginia Dare White Davenport and Evelyn White Williams Phillippi. For many years Christine and her husband, Doctrine, lived in Alexandria, Virginia and after retirement they moved back to their native Washington County and built a retirement home on the family farm originally owned by Doctrine’s grandfather, Doctrine Ira Davenport and his wife Charlotte. The farm was declared a Century Farm by the N.C. Department of Agriculture in the year 2000 and has been owned by the same family since 1881.
Her family includes her daughter, Sandra Kay Davenport Snapp and husband, Bob of Chocowinity, N.C.; son, Doctrine Franklin Davenport, II and wife Linda Christine of Woodbridge, Va.; grandchildren, Marcus Ivan Snapp and wife, Allison of Manteo, N.C., Courtney Aaron Snapp and Judson Franklin Snapp of Greenville, N.C., Alysoun Suzanne Davenport Montijo and husband, Ernesto Montijo III of Fredericksburg, Va., Kimberly Lynn Davenport Metts and husband Jay of Hubert, N.C., John Christopher Davenport and wife Elizabeth of Concord, N.C., and Veronica Lindemuth of Woodbridge, Va.; great- grandchildren, Nicole Snapp, Katlin Snapp, Caroline Snapp, Jordan Metts, Jason Metts, Jenna Montijo, Carmen Montijo, Lilly Davenport, Addison Davenport and Brandon Lindemuth; sister-in-law, Emma Lucille Davenport Reynolds; brother-in-law, Carol Vann Davenport and many nieces and nephews.
Christine was a life-long member of Philippi Church of Christ in the Cherry Community of Washington County and a celebration of Her Life will be held at the church on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at 2 p.m. with Glen Brickhouse officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Philippi Church of Christ or Open Door Children’s Home, Creswell, N.C., and flowers are welcome. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
