Mrs. Doris Freeman Cox, 79, a resident of Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home in Washington, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Margaretsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Stephen L. Trussell officiating. Burial will follow in Seaboard Cemetery.
Mrs. Cox was born in Halifax County on March 20, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Lester H. and Elma Higgins Freeman. She was married to William Calvin Cox, who preceded her in death. She worked as a registered nurse with the Virginia Department of Corrections until her retirement. She was a member of Margaretsville Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
Survivors include one son, the Rev. Jim Cox of Windsor; two sisters, Beverly Ann Nevetral of Petersburg, Va., and Margaret Merritt of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, Harold Freeman of College Park, Md.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Cox and two brothers.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Margaretsville Baptist Church and other times at the home of her son, 1312 Cedar Landing Road, Windsor.
