JUSTICE — Alease Jeffery Moore Harris, age 83, a resident of 58 Huford Harris Road, Spring Hope, passed away in the presence of family and friends on Monday, August 25, 2008.
Born on March 9, 1925, in Seven Paths, she was the daughter of Clarence and Melinda Moore, “PaPa and MaMa Nate.” She was married to George Kelly Harris on October 13, 1946, who preceded her in death. Alease graduated from Edward Best School, worked briefly at a hospital in Williamston where she felt called into nursing and Emergency Med Service and spent her life devoted to Christ, her community, her church and her family.
She is a former deacon of Duke Memorial Baptist Church where she taught the youth for thirty-three years and adults for eighteen years. If the church doors were open, Alease planned to be there. She was honored for nineteen years of volunteer service to White Level Rescue and EMS in 2006.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Vivian Harris and a sister, Mae Lynn Moore Nelms.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Harris Tunnell and husband, Dick of Swan Quarter, N.C.; Terry Harris and wife, Shirley of Spring Hope; grandchildren, Kelly Harris, Kim and Sam Leonard, Jamie Tunnell, David Tunnell, Tracy and Karen Proctor, great-grandchildren, Jessica Harris, Brooke Allen, Taylor Allen, Caleb Leonard, Zack Leonard, Jamie Proctor, Jeremy Proctor and special nieces and nephews, Stanley and Linda Nelms, Gerald and Gail Nelms, Gary and Gale Cooper, Donnie and Patsy Nelms, their families and her special “cousins.”
The family will receive friends at Spring Hope Funeral Home Wednesday, August 27, 2008, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. at Duke Memorial Baptist Church, 3976 Hwy. 581 North, Spring Hope, on Thursday, August 28, 2008, with Rev. Mike Thompson and Rev. Jack Edge officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot in Duke Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Duke Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Eva Medlin, 1293 Edward Best Road, Louisburg, NC 27549.
