Mrs. Cora Elizabeth Myers Guthrie of Gaffney, S.C., died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, Spartanburg, S.C.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, Washington, with a reception for family and friends at the church following the service. Interment for family only will be held at Fairfield Cemetery in Hyde County following the reception.
Mrs. Guthrie was born in Pantego on July 27, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Wilbur Fred Myers and Geraldine Elizabeth Myers. She graduated from Atlantic Christian College and taught school in Four Oaks and Jenkinsville, S.C. Later, she pursued a career in social work at the Department of Social Services in Columbia, S.C. She was married to Selden Douglas Guthrie, who survives. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1993, the couple moved to Washington. From there, they moved to Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville and lastly to Gaffney, S.C. She received an honorary lifetime membership in the Women of the Church of the Presbyterian Church, USA. She was a member of First Presbyterian Curch, Washington.
Survivors include two brothers, Ellis Myers and Vernon Myers; one sister, Nellie Logan; one son, Douglas Guthrie of Gaffney, S.C.; two daughters, Geri Busick of Charlottesville, Va., and Elizabeth Kozelka of Branford, Fla.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
