Mrs. Cariner Topping Gorham, 82, of 326 Van Norden St., Washington died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at the home of her son, Alphonso Gorham, 2900 Oxon Park Street-North, Temple Hills, Md.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Hebron Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Washington with the Rev. Garland Gorham officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
Mrs. Gorham was born in Hyde County on Feb. 20, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Florence Wilson Topping and Delama Topping Sr. She attended O.A. Peay School in Scranton. On March 1, 1948, she married Walter L. Gorham Sr., who preceded her in death Aug. 31, 2003. Her employment was as a chef with James Dining Room, Washington. In Hyde County, she was a member of St. Mary Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ). After moving to Washington, she was a lifelong member of Mount Hebron Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Washington.
Survivors include four sons, Walter L. Gorham Jr. and Garland Gorham, both of Greensboro, Alphonso Gorham of Temple Hills, Md., and Larry D. Gorham of Durham; one daughter-in-kind, Marjorie Roberts of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Florence Cayruth of New York; two brothers, Marvin E. Topping of New York and Clifford Topping of Swan Quarter; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Geraldine Blount, Mable E. Topping, Willie Topping Goodwin and Magaline Selby and six brothers, Robert Topping, Erastus Topping, James Delama Topping Jr., Maxwell Topping, Exton W. Topping and Milford Topping.
The family will receive friends at the home.
