Cora Elizabeth Myers Guthrie

Cora Guthrie, of Gaffney, SC, died August 26, 2008, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, Spartanburg, SC. She had corticobasal ganglion degeneration.
Born in Pantego, N.C., July 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Fred Myers and Geraldine Elizabeth Myers. She graduated from Atlantic Christian College and taught school in Four Oaks, NC and Jenkinsville, SC. Later she pursued a career in social work at the Department of Social Services in Columbia, SC. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1993, she and her husband moved to Washington, NC, from Columbia, SC. From there, they moved to Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, NC, and lately were living in Gaffney, SC, where she resided prior to her death.
Active in volunteer work and church activities, she received an honorary lifetime membership in the Women of the Church of the Presbyterian Church, USA. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington, NC. She enjoyed playing bridge and collecting antiques.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Washington, NC on Saturday, August 30 at 11 a.m. A reception for family and friends will follow the service at the church. The interment for family will be at Fairfield Cemetery in Hyde County following the reception.
Surviving are her husband, Selden Douglas Guthrie; two brothers, Ellis Myers and Vernon Myers, and a sister, Nellie Logan; a son, Douglas Guthrie of Gaffney, SC, and his wife Patty; two daughters, Geri Busick, of Charlottesville, VA, and Elizabeth Kozelka of Branford, FL; grandchildren, Jessica Hughes, Scott Gwynn, Robert Gwynn, Rose Jackson, Bonnie Kozelka, Sarah Rothwell and Andrew Busick; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Skylar Hughes, and Jordan and Madison Gwynn.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
