Mr. Melvin Jones of 210 Ridgeway Drive, Plymouth, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Union Chapel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Roper, with Elder Ernest R. Early officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Cross Road, Roper.
Mr. Jones was born in Washington County on Aug. 12, 1922. He was the son of the late Donie Treadwell and Clyde Jones. He was married to Matida Irene Sawyer, who preceded him in death. He worked as a machine operator for Weyerhaeuser Co. until his retirement. He was a member of Union Chapel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Roper.
Survivors include seven children, Bobby Ray Jones of Grifton, Gloria Moore of Plymouth, Michelle Madden and Meredith Jones, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Robin Bernal of Jacksonville, Fla., Adam Clayton Simpson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Amy Simpson of Roper; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Spruill of Columbia, S.C.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Roper.
