Austin “Baby Leroy” Rodgers, a resident of Washington, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Ridgewood Manor.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Garden Missionary Baptist Church with E.R. McNair officiating. Burial will be at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Austin was born Jan. 19, 1936, in Beaufort County. He was the son of the late Johnnie and Thenia Wiggins Rodgers. He attended P.S. Jones High School and enlisted in the Navy. Austin was married to Katie Mae Albritton, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Copper of East Orange, N.J.; three sons, Austin Rodgers Jr. of Newark, N.J., Jeffrey Rodgers of Hillside, N.J., and Kevin Rodgers of Georgianna, Ala.; two sisters, Inez Bess and Sudie Adkin, both of Washington; three brothers, John Rogers of Chocowinity and Edmond Rogers and Matthew Rodgers, both of Washington; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Leon Randolph Memorial Chapel and other times at the home of his sister, Inez Bess, 913 Van Norden St., Washington.
