Mrs. Dell Davis Sawyer Davenport, 87, of Creswell, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Plumblee Nursing Center in Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell, with the Revs. Kenneth Littleton and Royce Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Sound Side Free Will Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Davenport was born in Hyde County, the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Betty O’Neal Davis. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Rossie L. Sawyer and McCoy Davenport. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Keith Sawyer of Creswell; four stepdaughters, Doris Hudson of Roper, Grace Bray of Norfolk, Va., Janet Brabble of Creswell and Barbara Booth of Newport News, Va.; three stepsons, Frank Davenport of Pine Mountain, Ga., Hubert Davenport of South Mills and Bill Davenport of Virginia Beach, Va.; five brothers, J.C. Davis of Louisville, Ky., Dallas Davis and Ray Davis, both of Elizabeth City, Sam Davis of Smithfield and Carl Davis of Roper; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dallas Sawyer; one granddaughter, Jamie Leigh Sawyer; one sister, Doris Snell; and three brothers, Phillip Davis, Harold Davis and Bobby Davis.
The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
