Mr. Gerald Ivan Lovick, 22, of 4600 University Drive, Apartment 1201, Durham, and formerly of Washington, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Temple of Jesus Christ United Church, Washington, with Elder Russel S. Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington.
Mr. Lovick was born June 11, 1986, in Beaufort County. He was the son of Cynthia Cherry Lovick and Granver Reginald Lovick Jr. of Washington. He was a 2004 graduate of Washington High School, where he was a member of the ROTC and played the alto saxophone in the band. In the community he was a member of the NAACP Youth Chapter, 4-H Club; secretary of the G.R. Lovick Scholarship Fund and through the recreation department he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams. In May 2008 he earned a B.A. degree in Political Science from North Carolina Central University, Durham. He was a member of St. John Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, Washington, and served on the Young and United choir and a Sunday school member.
Survivors include two brothers, Travaughn Lovick and Granver Reginald Lovick III, both of Durham, and his grandmother, Marion Cherry Council of Oak City.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at St. John Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, 2283 St. John Church Road, Washington, and other times at the home of his parents, 1408 N. Washington St.
Arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
