Mrs. Hazel Smith Dixon, age 81, a former resident of 1668 Robersonville, Road, Washington died Saturday October 25, 2008 at Britthaven of Washington.
A graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday November 1, 2008 at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington officiated by Elbert Lilley. Pallbearers will be Larry Smith, Jack Jackson, David Johnston, Dave Dixon, Mike Dixon and Rick Dixon.
Mrs. Dixon was born in Pitt County on May 13, 1927 daughter of the late Major Smith and the late Janie Clark Smith. She was a 1947 graduate of Chicod School in Pitt County and married Donald Kenneth Dixon on May 11, 1947 who preceded her in death on April 18, 1989. Mrs. Dixon was a homemaker, a member of Rosehill Free Will Baptist Church and attended Tranters Creek Church of Christ where she was very active in many Church activities.
Survivors include a daughter: Julia Dixon Spain of Washington; two sons: Kenneth Franklin Dixon and his wife Barbara of New Bern and Randy Smith Dixon and his wife Denise of Washington; a sister in law: Olive Smith of Ayden; four grandchildren: Neal Dixon, David Spain Sgt. Jed Spain and Brandi Dixon and five great grandchildren: Adam McLawhorn, Elijah Spain, Mary Baylor Dixon, Braughton Dixon and William Spain. Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by four sisters: Ruth Watson, Rubelle Pollard, Bobby Ann Johnston and Ester Jackson and four brothers: Austin Smith, Burley Smith, Grady Smith and James Madison Smith.
The family will receive friends Saturday November 1, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mrs. Dixon’s grandson David Swain, which was Mrs. Dixon’s former home, located at 1668 Robersonville Road, Washington, NC.
