Terrance Copper wore purple and gold during his college playing days. He’ll be wearing a different shade of purple this weekend as the former Washington Pam Pack and East Carolina Pirates standout signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
Copper, a five-year veteran, signed a one-year deal with the Ravens on Wednesday. He was waived by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, the second time the Saints released him. Copper was originally waived Oct. 14 before he re-signed with the Saints on Oct. 18.
He can thank his wife, Kandy, for helping him land a job with the Ravens.
Copper, who has 46 receptions for 600 yards and six touchdowns in his career, was signed by Baltimore after receiver Demetrius Williams was placed on injured reserve. He’ll be wearing No. 15, instead of his customary No. 18, with Baltimore.
Baltimore coach John Harbaugh will likely use the 6-0, 207-pound Copper, who has 26 kickoff returns for 502 yards (19.3 average) and 37 special-teams tackles in his career, immediately.
Copper will be in uniform when the Ravens play at the Cleveland Browns (3-4) in a 1 p.m. game Sunday.
It marks the first of three straight away games for the Ravens. They play at Houston on Nov. 9 and at the N.Y. Giants on Nov. 16.
Copper will play his first home game with the Ravens on Nov. 23 when the Philadelphia Eagles head to Baltimore.
Copper, 26, began his career with the Dallas Cowboys. He played two years there before joining the Saints.
This marks the first time Copper has played in the AFC. He joins a Ravens team that is 4-3 and in second place behind the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North.
Editor's Note: Copper is the third area player that has signed with the Ravens. Former Williamston High School and Catawba College star Brad Roach, a quarterback, was signed as a free agent and then released this year. Former Plymouth High School and Central Michigan University standout Damien Linson, a wide receiver, was signed as a free agent and released two years ago.
