GRIMESLAND, NC — Mr. Grover Cleveland Haddock, Sr., 81, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, Greenville. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, NC.
Son of the late Claude H. and Dillie Elks Haddock, Mr. Haddock was a native of the Grimesland community of Pitt County where he lived and farmed all of his life. A member of Proctor Memorial Christian Church, he enjoyed singing in the choir, was active in the Men’s Fellowship, and had served as an elder, on the Administration Board, and as Sunday School Superintendent for more than 30 years. He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the Haw Branch Hunting Club.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Haddock was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Rouse Haddock, six brothers, L.J. Haddock of Chocowinity, NC, Sherman Haddock of Washington, NC, Frizzelle Haddock and Oscar B. Haddock, both of Grimesland, NC, Jesse D. Haddock of Plymouth, NC, and Lonnie Haddock who died as a child; two sisters, Annie Ruth Mills of Grimesland, NC, and Mildred Hardee of Greenville, NC.
He is survived by: a daughter, Lou Anna Hardee and her husband, Curtis, of Greenville, NC; a son, Grover Cleveland “Cleve” Haddock, Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Greenville, NC; a sister, Marie Haddock Hardee and her husband, James L., of Greenville, NC; five grandchildren, Curtis Lee Hardee, Jr. and his wife, Anita, Michael Todd Hardee and his wife, Dana, Lovie Nicole Haddock, Karly Taylor Haddock and Shelby Cleve Haddock; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville.
Memorials in Mr. Haddock’s memory may be made to the Drake Hardee Benevolent Fund, c/o the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 711 Phillips Rd, Kinston, NC 28501. Mr. Haddock’s great-grandson, Drake Hardee has been undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma.
