Once again the Susiegray McConnell Complex played host to another outstanding youth sporting event, as the EAC All-Star Soccer Tournament kicked off on Saturday.
The tournament was coordinated by the Washington Parks and Recreation Dept., whose efforts were led by Bobby Andrews, as well as The Friends of the PCM Skatepark and the Washington Optimist Club.
The tournament featured boys and girls teams from Washington, Williamston, Perquimans, Edenton, Gates County and Currituck and was played by children from 7-12-years old.
The teams from Currituck put on a show for the local fans as they won championships in the 7-9-year-old co-ed division, 7-9-year-old girls division and the 10-12-year-old girls division.
However, it was all Washington in the 10-12-year-old co-ed bracket as it the championship game featured two local teams, with John O’Neal’s Washington team topping the Washington (Angeles) 5-1.
At the end of the day it wasn’t so much about winning and losing, but about kids from all over getting to have a good time playing a sport they love.
Andrews said the spirit of sportsmanship was everywhere.
Throughout the course of the year Andrews is involved in several youth events and said that he enjoys being at each and every one of them.
