Mrs. Charlotte Evelyn Hodges Bailey, 88, of 1090 S. Rogers St., Bear Grass, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Macedonia Christian Church, U.S. Highway 17, Williamston, with ministers Dolan Baker, Greg Sexton and Eric Woolard officiating. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bailey was born May 5, 1920. She was the daughter of the late John Phillip Hodges and Sally Taylor Hodges. She was a graduate of Bear Grass High School. On Aug. 9, 1942, she married Clyde Buie Bailey, who survives. During World War II, she was awarded Air Civil Defense Wings for service as an observer. In 1992, she, along with her husband, was awarded the “Citizenship Award” by the Bear Grass Fire Department in appreciation of the high standards and goals that they set for the members of the department to follow as well as for their dedication and service to the department. She was a member of Macedonia Christian Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Griffin Bowen and Phyllis B. Respess, both of Bear Grass, and Marsha B. Luchs of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Lou Grooms of Mt. Olive, Ala.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy H. Bailey and Irene H. Gilliam and two brothers, Sampson Hodges and Thad Hodges.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Macedonia Christian Church and other times at the home.
