PLYMOUTH — Arthur R. Spruill Jr., 83, of 141 White Oak Road, died at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Windsor Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Mr. Spruill was born in Roper on January 11, 1925 to the late Arthur R. and Sara Pearl Craft Spruill. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jesse Fred Spruill and Thomas Wesley Spruill, and one sister Margaret Spruill Leary. He worked at the Naval Air Station in Virginia. His love was farming from which he retired in 1998. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army and served in China, Central Burma, India Burma and the China Offensive.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Walker Funeral Home-Horner Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2008 at Walker Funeral Home-Horner Chapel with Rev. Bob Moulden and Rev. Max Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens, Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy Smith Spruill of the home; two sons, Arthur R. “Buck” Spruill, III, and wife, Marlo Howell Spruill of Roper, and Jesse Thomas Spruill, and wife, Corie Bullock Spruill of Plymouth; one daughter, Leigh Nina Spruill of Durham; one grandson, Dylan Raleigh Spruill of Roper; and one granddaughter, Reagan Leigh Spruill of Plymouth; one sister, Mildred Spruill Swain of Elizabeth City and one sister-in-law, Lucy Gurganus Spruill of Roper.
