Mrs. Peggy Jean Russell McMillian Jones, 67, of 603 Cedar Lane, Iron Creek community, Washington died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Beaufort County Medical Center in Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in the John A. Wilkinson Center, Belhaven with the Rev. James Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.
Mrs. Jones was born in Robeson County on April 12, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Brooks and Dinah Mears McMillian. She graduated from the Robeson County Public Schools. She earned her teaching degree from Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City and did further studies at East Carolina University in Greenville. She retired after 30 years from Belhaven Elementary School in Belhaven. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. On April 20, 1961, she was married to John Wesley Jones, who survives. She was a member of St. Reddick Missionary Baptist Church, Belhaven.
Survivors include one daughter, Sonya Jones of the home and one brother, Alfred Blackmon of Trevose, Pa.
Viewing will take place Friday one hour prior to the funeral service at John A. Wilkinson Center, Belhaven.
The family will receive friends at the home.
