Mr. Thomas W. Griffin Jr. of the Lewiston-Woodville community in Bertie County, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at the Brian Center in Windsor.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Grace Episcopal Church churchyard in Lewiston-Woodville, with the Rev. Joe Cooper officiating.
Mr. Griffin was born in Lewiston-Woodville in Bertie County on Jan. 20, 1918. He was the son of Thomas Whitmel Griffin and Margaret McKenzie Urquhart Griffin. After graduating in 1937 from Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Va., and attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he returned home to help manage the family farms and Woodville Supply Co. He served on numerous county agricultural boards. He was a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he served as a senior warden of the vestry.
Survivors include one sister, Margaret U. Griffin of the home.
The family will receive friends Wednesday following the graveside service at the home of John and Claudia Griffin.
