Mrs. Ella Smith Powell, 93, of 704 Belmont St., Windsor, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cashie Baptist Church with the Rev. Reese Blanchett officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell was born in New Bern on Sept. 12, 1915. She was the daughter of the late John Ivey and Ella Piggott Smith. She was married to J.S. Powell Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Cashie Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Chris P. Glasgow of Charlotte and Julia P. Blackwelder of Wilmington; two sons, Jack Powell Jr. of Windsor and Bill Powell of Merry Hill; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at the home.
