Ms. Aggie Nancy Spencer Whitfield, 101, of Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter, and formerly of Engelhard, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Cross Creek.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Davis School in Engelhard with Elder Redden Leggett, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Memorial Cemetery, Engelhard.
Ms. Whitfield was born in Hyde County on Jan. 21, 1907. She was the daughter of the late Mary Neta Spencer Gibbs and Nathaniel H. Spencer. She had worked as a domestic. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Church of Christ. Ms. Whitfield was marreid to Charlie Lewis Whitfield, who preceded her in death. She attended Engelhard School and later the former St. Norman’s College, now Elizabeth City State University. She taught school for many years.
Survivors include one son, Eugene Whitfield of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Mary E. Whitfield, Dawn W. Shaw and Doris Whitfield, all of Engelhard; a daughter-in-kind, Sudie Gibbs of Georgetown, Del.; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
