Mrs. Joan Spikes Rish

Mrs. Joan Spikes Rish, 73, a resident of Pamlico Plantation, Washington, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at home in the comfort and care of her family and hospice staff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia Duke and William Spikes of Raleigh, NC. She was a graduate of Needham Broughton High School, 1953, and the North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, Wake Forest University Medical Center, 1956.
She is survived by her husband, Berkley L. Rish, MD; two sons, Monty and Bob; three grandsons, Anderson Craig, Dwight Charles and Ethan Taylor Rish, all of Washington, NC; and three sisters, Billie Naquin of Denham Springs, LA, Jean Sundlie of Columbia, SC, and Alice K. Speights of Baton Rouge, LA.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2008 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Dr. Selden Harris officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Private inurnment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium, Washington, DC.
