Mrs. Evelyn Hopkins-Thomas died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.
A funeral will be conducted today at Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
A memorial service to honor her life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Word of Life Ministries, Washington.
She was the daughter of Charlie A. Hopkins Sr. and the late Mollie Windley Hopkins. She was a 1967 graduate of Beaufort County High School and furthered her studies at N.C. Central University, Durham, earning a bachelor’s degree in science and mathematics. She was married to Arthur Thomas, who survives. She was employed with the Exxon Mobile Corporation in computer graphics. She was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
Survivors include one daughter, Cassandra Cotton Murphy of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Shirley Moore of Chesapeake, Va., Jacqueline Lawrence of Pinetown, and Mollie Hopkins and Sherry Hopkins, both of Washington; and seven brothers, Charlie A. Hopkins of Belhaven, Vernon Hopkins and Randolph Hopkins, both of Bath, Willie H. Hopkins of Columbus, Ga., Dr. Ronnie Hopkins of Columbia, S.C., Terry Hopkins of Nashville, N.C., and John Hopkins of Washington.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Collins Spencer.
Arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
