Mrs. Mildred White Hoell, age 99, a resident of 128 Washington Harbour, Washington, died Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Britthaven of Washington.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Oakdale Cemetery and will be conducted by Rev. Kevin Johnson. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Hoell was born in Beaufort County on April 23, 1909, the daughter of the late William Riley and Ada Paul White. On September 8, 1937 she married Ira Herbert Hoell who preceded her in death on November 6, 1958.
Mrs. Hoell was a graduate of Pantego High School and attended East Carolina University. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and was active in many civic activities including over 20 years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and also serving as memorial chairwoman, Hospital Gray Lady, Arts Council and numerous fund raising drives.
Survivors include one son, I. Herbert Hoell, Jr. and his wife Julianne of Washington and Chapel Hill; one daughter, Ada Ellen H. Smith and husband David of Gastonia, NC and a step-daughter, Catherine Furlow. She was the beloved grandmother of four, David Allen Smith Jr., Patrick H. Smith, Julianne Capel Hoell, I. Herbert Hoell, III and great grandmother of four. She is also survived by one sister, Winifred W. Creekmore, and two brothers, Horace Glen White and Charlie White. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Verona W. Hill, Pauline W. Morris, Bessie W. Ross, Zadah W. Youmans, and two brothers, William Edward White and Cecil A. White.
The family appreciates the love and concern of friends and asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Blind Center of Washington, 221 N.
