Cecil C. Craft, Jr., 90, a life long resident of Washington County, died peacefully Tuesday, December 30, 2008 after suffering a stroke three weeks earlier.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday January 3, 2009 at Plymouth Church of Christ with Bob Moulden and Thomas Biggs officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the vestibule of the church. A private burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Mr. Craft’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Cecil was born in Scottsville, VA, July 9, 1918 to Cecil Sr. and Gladys Taggart Craft. His Mom died when he was just a few months old and he was raised by his Aunt, Fleeta Craft Freeman, on the Folly Road in Roper. He attended school in Roper, N.C.
He was a member of Zion’s Chapel Church of Christ and later Plymouth Church of Christ. Cecil loved hunting; fishing; gardening; fixing lawn mowers; music and was known for his ability to play the harmonica.
On August 31, 1940, he married Pennie Craddock who survives; also surviving his sons; Ronald and wife Linda of Belhaven, NC; Edward and wife Elizabeth of Plymouth, NC and Herbie Potter of Belhaven, NC; one brother: Edward Craft and wife Joan of Belhaven, NC; two sisters: Evelyn Duzan of Vanceboro, NC and Mildred Clark of Belhaven, NC; two nephews whom he loved like sons: Wesley and Frankie Craddock; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 in the Family Life Center at Plymouth Church of Christ and other times at the home of his son, Edward (Ed) Craft, 1816 Hollis Rd., Plymouth.
