Mr. Donald Wesley Mason, 69, of 45 Swindell Road, Pantego, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the John A. Wilkinson Center, Belhaven, with Dr. Matthew Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Northside Cemetery, Belhaven.
Mr. Mason was born in Beaufort County on Aug. 7, 1939. He was the son of Daniel Webster Mason and the late Emma Gibbs Mason. He attended the Beaufort County Schools. On July 11, 1965, he married Eva Mann, who survives. His employment was as a truck driver with the Grain Storage Company. He was a member of the Beaufort County Alumni. He was a member of Zion Temple Free Will Baptist Church, Pantego, where he served as a former trustee.
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Williams of Montgomery, N.Y., Tammy Spencer of Newark, N.J., and Melverly Mason-Spencer of Moyock; three sons, Mitchell Gibbs of Atlanta, Ga., Carey Alexander of Far Rockaway, N.Y., and Welvery Mason of Pantego; one sister, Eldora Minix of Chesapeake, Va.; three brothers, Melvin Mason of Bath, George Mason of South Carolina and Harry Mason of Belhaven; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel W. Mason, Frank W. Mason and Charles Mason.
Flowers are welcome, however the family preference is that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation for the Plymouth Dialysis Center, 734 U.S. Highway 64 East, Plymouth, NC 27962.
The family will receive friends at the home.
