Mr. Autry Eural Chandler, Sr., age 70 a resident of 9675 U.S. Highway 17 South, Chocowinity, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Britthaven of Snow Hill.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Chocowinity, conducted by Pastor Henry Horne and Pastor Roger Tripp. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
The following will serve as active pallbearers: Ken Spivey, Harold Bright, Jimmy Harris, Deryl Bass, Snody Carrow, and Obe Worthington. Honorary pallbearers will be Ruffin Chandler, Douglas Branch, Jerry Armstrong, Bobby Adams, Larry Wiggins, Greg Rowe, Bobby Whichard and Herman Tyson.
Mr. Chandler was born in Beaufort County on August 28, 1938. He was the son of the late Allie Eural Chandler and Annie Harding Chandler. He graduated from Chocowinity High School. Mr. Chandler served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired insulator with Brown and Root Construction at Texasgulf and Daniels Construction at Dupont. Mr. Chandler also worked at National Spinning, Cherry Lyles Funeral Home, Alligood Wholesale Company, Chocowinity Police Department, E.C.U. Police Department, Beaufort County Jail, and Buckman Auto Parts before his retirement.
Mr. Chandler was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He started the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at the church and loved to cook for Sunrise services. Mr. Chandler was a past member of the D.A.V. and the Chocowinity Ruritan Club. He was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise Alligood Chandler, “The Old Woman” of the home; his son Autry Eural Chandler, Jr., “Tater” and his wife Roberta, of New Orleans, LA; his daughter, Sharon Chandler Tucker, “Wart” and her husband, Fredric of Clarksville, TN; three grandchildren, Kimberly Lynch, “Sissy” and her husband, Ben, Ashley Chandler, “Skeeter”, Frederick Tucker, “Skip”; special nephew, Robin Woolard; special niece, Thelma Life; two sisters, Ann VonAlma of Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada, Joan Bogun of Belhaven; and two brothers, Jimmy Chandler and Buddy Chandler both of Chocowinity.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 2110 Old New Bern Road, Chocowinity, N.C. 27817 and other times at the home.
