Chester L. Spruill

Mr. Chester Lee Spruill, 55, formerly of Beaufort County, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008.
A funeral was conducted Jan. 6, 2009, in Millstone Baptist Church, 10032 LP Bailey Memorial Highway, Nathalie, Va., with the Rev. Dean and the Rev. James Goode officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Spruill was born in Beaufort County on June 18, 1953. He was the son of Dewey Harold Spruill Sr. and Emma Bryant Spruill. He was a high school graduate from the public schools of Beaufort County. He did further studies at N.C. Central University, Durham, earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He also earned a master’s degree in public administration and in divinity. He served in the Army. On Jan. 3, 1975, he was married to Trudy Slade Spruill, who survives. He was the pastor of Millstone Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Tanesha S. Goods of Roxboro and Catrina S. Leak of Frederick, Md.; four sisters, Annie Ruth Clark Chavis of Pantego, Linda B. Dance of Washington and Sandra Spruill and Cherry Spruill, both of Durham; three brothers, William Spruill and Edward Spruill, both of Durham, and Dewey Spruill Jr. of Chocowinity and six grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Carlton L. Gray Funeral and Cremation Services, 2810 Kidd Road, Raleigh.
Local arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
