Major W. O’Neal

Mr. Major Warren O’Neal, 83, of Roper, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Allen Pearson and Bobby Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mr. O’Neal was born in Hyde County on Jan. 26, 1925. He was the son of the late Major Jerry O’Neal and Nancy Gibbs O’Neal. He was married to Ida Edwards O’Neal, who preceded him in death. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He worked as a lime kiln operator with Weyerhaeuser Corp. until his retirement. He was a member of Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Rose O. Nelson of Falcon, Dolores O. Creef of Columbia and Charline O. Miller of Washington; one brother, Melvin O’Neal of Carrsville, Va.; one sister, Laura O. Sanderlin of New Bern; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva O. Gurganus, Annie O. Simmons and Lula O. Todd.
The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Arrangements are by Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
