Mrs. Georgia Mae Dail Swanner, 87, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Ridgewood Manor nursing home in Washington.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Oakdale Cemetery with pastor Norman Morris officiating. Pallbearers will be Allen Swanner, Jack Swanner Jr., Kevin Swanner, Virgil Toler, Aaran Paul Swanner and Jerry Johnson.
Mrs. Swanner was born in Beaufort County on March 31, 1921. She was the daughter of the late George Henry Dail and Sina Elizabeth Boyd Dail. On Aug. 1, 1936, she married Asa Garfield Swanner Sr., who preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1972. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Tabernacle Holiness Church of Vanceboro.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois S. Toler of Washington and Joyce S. Eakes of Winterville; three sons, A.G. Swanner Jr. of Washington, Wilbur Eugene Swanner Sr. and Jack Laverne Swanner Sr., both of Vanceboro; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Swanner was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Howard Swanner, in 1984; twin children, Julia and Clyde Swanner; four brothers, Donald Dail, Steve Dail, Jack Dail and J.R. Dail; and three sisters, Ardell Wilson, Lillian Smith and Evelyn Manning.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Lois Toler, 3687 Wharton Station Road, Washington.
