Mr. Donald Gray Kennedy, age 64, a resident of 104 DeMille Drive, Tranter’s Creek Estates, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, February 3, 2009 from the chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by S. Ray West. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening following the service at the funeral home and other times at the home. Interment will be private.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Carl Perry, Ernie Coleman, Jeff Bullock, Jerry Boyd, Lee West and Ed Cherry.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Duplin County on February 4, 1944. He was the son of the late Burrell Kennedy and Bessie Miller Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy served in the U.S. Navy and later the National Guard. He was a retired supervisor with Sprint/Embarq. After his retirement, Mr. Kennedy worked at Bradford Creek Golf Course. He was a past member of the Optimist Club and the local National Guard unit. Mr. Kennedy was an avid golfer.
On December 14, 1973, Mr. Kennedy married the former Sylvia Brown, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Donald Kennedy II and his wife, Brandon of Washington, Darren Kennedy of Wilson; two daughters, Deirdre Kennedy Lewis and her friend, Carl Perry of Washington, Donna Kennedy Russ of Wilson; five grandchildren, Tristin Worthington, Taylor Lewis, Tori Lewis, Kaylee Elks, and Walker Kennedy; a sister, Shirley McGee of Roseboro; and a brother, Roy Kennedy of Warsaw.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by twin brother, Douglas Kennedy and brother, Sam Kennedy.
