Mr. Jeffrey Alan “Jeff” Hilberg, age 64, a resident of 221 E. 7th Street, Washington, NC, died Monday, February 2, 2009 at his home.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, NC conducted by Eric Hilberg.
Jeff was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 11, 1944. He was the son of the late Dr. Albert William Hilberg and Rosemary Helen Hilberg. Jeff graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Montgomery County, Maryland in 1962. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1969, stationed in Berlin. Jeff’s major profession was as a woodworker from heavy construction to residential and marine carpentry and cabinet making. He also worked in the newspaper business, and in fishing and crabbing. Jeff taught carpentry at Beaufort County Community College from 1979 to 1987. He was an avid reader, skilled organizer, enjoyed animals, landscaping, sailing, brewing beer and informal barbeques.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Chastain Lalla of Carrboro, NC; his companion of 27 years, Barbara Lounsbury Dunn of Washington, NC, her son, Chris, his wife, Emily and their daughter, Erin of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Eric Hilberg and his wife, Karen of Las Cruces, NM, David Hilberg and his wife, Donna of Silver Spring, MD; two sisters, Kristin Henderson of Silver Spring, MD, Susan Hilberg of Thurmont, MD; and nieces and nephews, Desirae Vasquez of Baltimore, MD, Thomas Hilberg of Martinsburg, WV, Daniel Henderson of Los Angeles, CA, Sean Henderson and Kimberly Henderson both of Silver Spring, MD.
The family will receive friends after the service at his home for a celebration of his life.
