Mr. Carlton Ray Branch, Sr., 71, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009 in Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Winterville Cemetery.
Mr. Branch, a native of Pitt County, lived in the Winterville community until 1993, where he made his home near Washington. For several years he worked with Union Carbide and later looked after maintenance for Physicians East. He was also active in his own lawn care business and delivered boat trailers for Load Rite Trailer in Washington.
Mr. Branch was active in his community and served in both the Winterville Fire Department and Winterville Rescue Squad. He was a former fire chief and was named as an Outstanding Young Fireman of the Year. He was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Washington, where he also volunteered in church maintenance.
Mr. Branch was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Julia Branch, sister, Sara Frances Branch, and brother, Denny Branch.
He is survived by his: wife of 18 years, Peggy Anderson Branch and Hershey Bar, his Beagle; daughters, Teresa Branch Moye and husband, Eddie, of Greenville, and Frances Branch Mitteness and husband, Mo, of Monroe, NC; sons, Carlton Ray Branch, Jr., of Ayden, and Timothy Clay Branch and wife, Gaye, of Williamston; stepdaughters, Tammy Lewis and husband, Allen, of Washington, and Robin Potter and husband, Lee, of Chocowinity; grandchildren, John Michael Page, Jimmy Moye, Houston Blue Pittman, David &Anna Mitteness, Ginni and Derrick Jones, Nikki Branch, Brandi and Casey Lewis, and Anderson Potter; one great-granddaughter, Jaylin Edwards Moye; brothers, Rev. Charles E. Branch, of Winterville, and Connie Branch, of Wilmington; and sister, Jackie G. Buck, of Winterville.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville, and other times at his home in Washington.
