One of Beaufort County’s longest serving physicians, Dr. Paul Milton Moore, Jr., age 75, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday February 11, 2009 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Pastor Travis Boyd. Gerald May, Dr. Raeford Pugh, Dr. Zack Waters, Mayhew Wallace, Fred Meece and Dr. Liz Cook will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Dr. Moore was born in Pitt County on September 6, 1933, son of the late, Paul Milton Moore, Sr. and Bonnie Boswell Moore. He grew up in Black Creek and was raised in the Methodist Church. After graduating from high school in 1951, he began his undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon graduation in 1955, he was accepted and started his medical studies at the UNC School of Medicine at Chapel Hill. He received his Doctorate Degree from the UNC School of Medicine at Chapel Hill in 1959. Dr. Moore spent the next three years in the U.S. Army – Special Forces.
After his military service, Dr. Moore began practicing medicine in 1962 in Stantonsburg, NC but after a visit to Washington, NC, he decided to move and opened his practice in April of 1963. For his many patients and longtime friends, the visit and subsequent move was one of the best things in their lives.
Dr. Moore is survived by his sons, Paul Milton Moore, III of Washington, Vance Frederick Moore and his wife, Bonnie Boswell Moore of Raleigh; his daughter, Jessica Aycock Moore of Raleigh; his grandchildren: Camden Vance Moore, Alexander Paul Moore and William Boswell Moore and his companion, Pat Lovely of the home.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home located at 144 E. Main Street, Washington.
