Mr. James Clayton “JC” Kirkman, 75, of Robersonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Pinewood Memorial Park with Jason Kirkman and Josh Purdy officiating.
Mr. Kirkman was born in Caswell County, the son of the late W.T. and Janie Malloy Kirkman. He was a graduate of Stokes Pactolus High School. He served in the Army, worked with Ralston-Purina Co. in Kinston and was engaged in farming for 25 years. Upon retiring from farming, he worked as a salesman for John Deere Tractor. In October 1985, he joined the Pitt County Sheriff’s Department and worked until February 1998. He was married to Dorothy “Dot” Eastwood Kirkman, who survives. He was a former volunteer fireman with Carolina Township Fire Department and a member of the Ruritan Club. He was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters, Teresa K. Ross of Robersonville, Debra K. Peaden of Falkland and Susan K. Bullock of Belvoir; one son, James Clayton “Clay” Kirkman Jr. of Robersonville; one brother, Leo Kirkman of Denver, N.C.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Kirkman and Glenn Kirkman and one sister, Odessa Keel.
The family will receive friends today from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville, and other times at the home.
