Mr. Joseph Malcolm Harden, 78, of 730 White Oak Road, Windsor, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Walker Funeral Home, Windsor. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
Mr. Harden was born in Bertie County on Oct. 24, 1930. He was the son of the late Joseph Merle and Swano Jernigan Harden. He was married to Joan Bowen Harden, who survives. He served in the National Guard. He was a former purchasing agent with Lea Lumber Co. and was the former owner of County Farmer Supply in Askewville. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and Askewville Fire Department. He was a member of Askewville Baptist Church, where he served as RA director.
Survivors include one daughter, Edith H. Williford of Askewville; three sons, Marty Harden of Mt. Gould, Barry Harden of Williamston and Richard Harden of Askewville; two sisters, Joanne Hoggard and Linda Johnson, both of Windsor; one brother, Darvin Harden of Aulander; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, and other times at the home.
