VANCEBORO — Mrs. Gladys Belle Lewis Smith, 91, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro by the Rev. Mike Coombs and Rev. Mike Scott. Burial will follow in Greenleaf Memorial Park, New Bern.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Craven County. She was a lifelong resident of the Vanceboro community, and member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith had a special love for gardening and flowers.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilbur O. Smith, two daughters, Geraldine Carrow and Elitha Jenkins, and grandson, Rod Smith.
She is survived by her children, Ronald Smith and wife, Pattie, of Cove City, Donald Smith and wife, Ellen, of Washington, Bobby Smith and wife, Geneva, of Vanceboro, Lois Fornes, of Vanceboro, and Betty Barr and friend, Jimmy Corey, of Vanceboro; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Vanceboro, and other times at the home of her daughter, Lois Fornes, 222 Oak Grove Rd, Vanceboro.
