Mrs. Gladys Upton Almond

GREENSBORO — Mrs. Gladys Upton Almond, age 84, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Clapps Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday February 21 at George Brothers Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park with Rev. John Causey officiating the service.
Mrs. Almond was born in Roanoke Rapids, NC on February 5, 1925 to the late Lonnie and Clemmie Upton. Gladys loved nursing, as she served as an RN at Wesley Long Hospital for 25 years, and Evergreens Nursing Home for 10 years. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Almond was preceded in death by her husband, James Jarvis Almond, a brother, Bobby Upton, and a sister, Virginia Houston.
She is survived by her loving children: daughter Jane Henson and husband, Tom; daughter Lynn Bates; son Jim Almond, and his wife, Pam; grandchildren Scott Henson and his wife Jenell, David and his wife Ashley Bates, and Nikki Almond. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and very special neighbors and dear friends.
Gladys loved plants and flowers which are appreciated, so they may be donated to Evergreens Nursing Home 4007 W. Wendover Ave. Greensboro, NC 27407 or to Clapps Nursing Homes Center 5229 Appomattox Rd. Pleasant Garden, NC 27313. Please have all flowers delivered to George Brothers Funeral Service.
A special thanks to her very dear neighbors, and friends for their many acts of kindness and compassion, and also to the caring staff of Clapps Nursing Center.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at George Brothers Funeral Service.
