Mrs. Janice Herring Jordan passed away on Friday, February 20, 2009 after an extended illness.
Mrs. Jordan was born in Robeson County, NC on October 30, 1928 to Joseph Clifton and Annie Ruth Stone Herring. Her childhood years were spent in Orrum, NC, she then lived the majority of her life in Plymouth, NC with periods of time in Richmond, VA and Sanford, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Dorothy Grimsley; brothers; J. C., Laddie Pal, and David Herring and daughter-in-law Ann Gilliam Jordan.
Survivors include, her husband Fenner G. Jordan, Jr. of Plymouth; daughter Deborah Jordan Matthews and husband Dr. Ben Matthews of Raleigh; son F. Graham Jordan, III and wife Lynn of Raleigh; son John Joseph Jordan of Raleigh. Also surviving are grandchildren Jordan Matthews and special friend Andrea Donnelly of Richmond, VA. and Sarah and Charles Jordan of Raleigh, NC. Her sisters, Hilda and husband James Byrd of Wilmington, NC; Mattie Palmer of Hope Mills, NC; LaVaughn and husband Alton Simmons of Albemarle, NC; Sandra and husband Milton Horne of Cumberland, NC; Carolyn and Johnny Hall of New London, NC; sisters-in-law, Terry Herring, Thelma Herring and Acenath Herring. Many nieces and nephews survive her.
She was selflessly devoted to the lives of her husband, children, support of her family, friends and community. Their successes provided her with tremendous satisfaction and great joy. She will be sorely missed.
The family expresses their sincere thanks and appreciation to caregiver Janet Harper and also to the staff of Mayview Convalescent Center for their unfailing kindness, respect, and affectionate care during her remaining days.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Monday, February 23, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home in Washington, NC and will be conducted by Rev. Jimmy Hagwood. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
