Mrs. Theodora Lewis Saunders, 102, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009.
A funeral was conducted Feb. 23, 2009, in the chapel of Wilkerson Funeral Home, Vanceboro. Burial followed in Celestial Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Saunders was born in Vanceboro on Feb. 10, 1907. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Rosa Clark Lewis. She was a graduate of Farm Life High School. She attended Washington Collegiate Boarding School in Washington for a year and then enrolled in nursing school at St. Leo’s Hospital in Greensboro. She spent most of her nursing career in several Virginia hospitals before moving to New Bern where she retired from Craven Regional Medical Center. She was married to G.W. Saunders, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one sister, Mozelle Barrow of the home.
