Mrs. Sylvia Jean Briley Knight, 52, of 305 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Beaufort County Medical Center, Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Davenport’s Temple Church of God in Christ with Bishop Leroy J. Woolard officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Knight was born in Halifax County on March 19, 1956. She was the daughter of the late J.T. Briley and Marie D. Briley Richards. She attended Beaufort County schools. She was employed with home-health agencies’ nursing programs prior to declining health. She was married to Winfred Knight, who survives. She was a member of Davenport’s Temple COGIC, where she served on the usher board.
Survivors include two daughters, Fenita Sattherthwaite and Kimberly Knight, both of Washington; five sisters, Mary Dowling of Hewitt, Texas, Telma Gibbs, Evon Davis and Janet Ruffin, all of Washington, and Vernistine Burrus of Greenville; two brothers, Johnny Briley of Greenville and David Briley of Baltimore, Md., and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Christie D. Knight and her siblings, Margie B. Gorham, Louise B. Farris, Johnny R. Briley and Willie T. Briley.
The family will receive friends at the home. A walk-in visitation will be held today from 1-7 p.m. at the chapel of Whitfield &Whitley Funeral Home, Washington.
