Oak City — Major Earl Council, 88, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Vintage Inn Retirement Center.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Oak City Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Sheldon officiating.
Mr. Council was born on Aug. 18, 1920 in Martin County. He was the son of William Oscar and Charlotte Casper Council. On Sept. 21, 1943, he married Virginia Johnson Council, who preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 1998. He was a merchant at a service station at the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Oak City Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Andy Johnson Council of Emerald Isle; two daughters, Edith Daniels of Williamston, Jenny Lind Edmondson of Kinston; one sister, Addlee Perry-Carson of California; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the funeral service at the home of Edith Daniels, 503 N. Smithwick Street, Williamston and Oak City Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak City Baptist Church.
