CHOCOWINITY — Mandi Harding was able to take a seat on second base, literally, while head coach John Lohman substituted freely during the first inning of Tuesday’s high school game against Roanoke.
The Southside Lady Seahawks erupted for 15 runs in the first inning and never looked back, running away with a 21-1 victory in five innings over the Redskins.
Harding, who had two hits, scored a couple times and delivered a two-run single during the huge first inning. Shakeria Lomax, fresh off a seven-RBI performance, belted a double among her three hits.
They were just two of the players who contributed to the win.
Southside added four more runs in the second and two in the third.
It made for an easy afternoon for starting pitcher Emily Smith, who got the win. Smith, like the rest of the starters, got some time off during the game.
Southside (5-5, 4-1) returns to action Thursday at Williamston. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
