Cahoon named to Conference Carolinas First Team

Former area athletes continue to shine in the professional and collegiate ranks.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Kat Cahoon, a former standout at Columbia High School, is playing at Mount Olive College. The senior was named to the Conference Carolinas First Team for her play this season. Cahoon is hitting a team-best .406 with seven RBIs. Cahoon has scored a team-high 30 runs and has a team-best 10 stolen bases. Her 43 hits lead the Trojans.
Meredith Knox, a former star at Washington High School, is playing at Anderson University. Knox is hitting .331 with a team-high seven home runs and 21 RBIs. She has scored 26 runs and stolen three bases.
Nicole Jordan, a former standout at Jamesville High School, is playing with the East Carolina Lady Pirates. She is 0-for-6 with an RBI on the season.
Dominique Mills, a former standout at Williamston High School, is playing at Fayetteville State. Mills is hitting .338 and has scored a team-best 37 runs. She also has two home runs, 22 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.
Donecia Ebron, a former standout at Northside High School, is playing at Fayetteville State. Ebron is hitting .294 and has scored 10 runs. She also has one stolen base.
Tiffany Frey, a former standout at Jamesville High School, is playing at Pitt Community College. The freshman has been sidelined with a broken ankle. Frey is hitting .200 (2 for 10) with three RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored.
Lauren Rodriguez, a former standout at Northside High School, is playing at Campbell. The freshman has been sidelined with a broken leg.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Trent Whitehead, a former star at Washington High School, is playing with the East Carolina Pirates. The sophomore is hitting .420 with three homers, 27 RBIs and 43 runs scored. Whitehead has 14 doubles and two triples among his Conference USA-high 66 hits. He also has five stolen bases.
Britton Cole, a former standout at Pitt Community College who is from Chocowinity, is playing with the East Carolina Pirates. The senior has made two appearances this season. Cole has pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.
Styron Barfield, a former standout at Williamston High School, is a pitcher at Elizabeth City. The junior was named to the All-CIAA team for his play this year. He is 5-6 with an 5.74 ERA on the year. Barfield has struck out 48 and walked 27 in 69 innings. Barfield is also 1-2 with two RBIs at the plate. Barfield has made 10 starts and has five complete games to his credit. He was the winning pitcher in Elizabeth City’s 11-6 upset of top-seeded Saint Augustine in the opening round of the CIAA tournament.
Josh Woolard, a former standout at Washington High School, is playing at Lenoir Community College. Woolard (0-0, 2.38 ERA) has appeared in five games and given up three runs on eighth hits in 11 1/3 innings of work. He has three strikeouts and three walks.
Alan Swain, a former star at Washington High School, is playing at Lenoir Community College. Swain (1-0, 4.62 ERA) has appeared in seven games and given up six runs on 11 hits in 11 2/3 innings. He has six strikeouts and four walks.
PRO BASEBALL
Ryan Zimmerman, a Washington native, is playing with the Washington Nationals. He is hitting .242 with two homers and eight RBIs.
TENNIS
Lauren Allen, a former star at Washington High School, is playing at Peace College. Allen is 5-11 in doubles play and 5-10 in singles play.
TRACK
Jamont Jones, a former star at Washington High School, is competing at Lenoir-Rhyne.
Jessica Rogers, a former standout at Washington High School, is competing at North Carolina A&T.
Gina Valenti, a former star at Washington High School, is competing at Lees-McRae.
Derek Joyner, a former standout at Terra Ceia, is competing at Pitt Community College. He finished in 12th place at the Glenn Heath Memorial Shipbuilders Tournament.
PRO BASKETBALL
Damien Wilkins averaged 5.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.5 steals per game for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Elton Coffield, a former star at Williamston High School, is averaging 19.9 points with the BSW Sixers (Germany).
Ralph Biggs, a Washington native, is playing with Ural Great Perm (Russia). He is averaging 10.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Joe Barber, a former standout at Terra Ceia College, is averaging 9.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists with the Sendai 89ers (Japan).
