Mr. Harvey Lee Barnes, age 71, a resident of 193 Sparrow Bay, Blounts Creek, NC died Monday April 20, 2009 at the East Carolina Heart Institute at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday April 23, 2009 at Warren Chapel United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Sylvia Duke and Pastor Pam Mitchum. Burial will follow in Warren Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Barnes was born in Wilson County on August 29, 1937 son of the late William Arthur Barnes and the late Catherine Mercer Barnes. He was a 1955 graduate of Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson and served his country in the National Guard. Mr. Barnes married Betty Jean Barnes on October 9, 1954. He was a project manager/estimator with Watson Electrical and T&H electrical both in Wilson and at the time of his retirement he was affiliated with Electrical Services Limited in Washington. Mr. Barnes was a member of the Richland’s Seniors Club, Warren Chapel United Methodist Church and its men’s group. Mr. Barnes enjoyed his retirement on the Pamlico River watching the river and its wildlife beauty.
Survivors include two sons: Charles A. Barnes and his wife Ava of Blounts Creek and William Harvey “Bill” Barnes and his Fiance/ Melinda Gail Bryson; a daughter: Crystal “Crissy” Varnell and her husband Michael Todd of Wilson; a brother: Kenneth Barnes and his wife Marjorie of Grifton; six grandchildren: Christopher Allen Barnes, Jeremy Ryan Barnes, Carey Hunter Banks, IV, Lilly Ann Varnell, Valarie Kinsey and Randall Garrett Barnes and three great grandchildren: Charles William Crawford-Myers, Emily Ryan Barnes and Bella Juliet Kinsey.
The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday April 22, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Pitt Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 8489, Greenville, NC 27835 and designated to the East Carolina Heart Institute.
