Mr. Phillip Edward “Phil” Williams, age 74, a resident of 460 Main Street, Pinetown, NC died Thursday April 23, 2009 at the Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday April 27, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Mike Caton and Fred Wilson. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Elders and Deacons of Rosemary Church of Christ will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Williams was born in Beaufort County on April 24, 1934 son of the late Wilmer Leroy Williams and the late Carrie Ellen Pilley Williams. He attended Bath High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Williams married the former Lola Mae Ward on December 17, 1953 who survives. He was a retired calcine operator with PCS Phosphate Co. in Aurora, a member of Rosemary Church of Christ and a member of the American Legion Washington Post #15. Mr. Williams was a past coach of a men’s farm league baseball team and a past Boy Scout troop leader.
Surviving along with Mr. Williams’ wife Lola of the home are three daughters: Patricia Lewis of Washington, Lynda Woolard and her husband Rodney of Washington and Gina Rogers and her husband Ray of Clayton; a brother: Roger Freeman Williams and his wife Freda of New Bern; two sisters: Betty Hardee and Sharon Thompson and her husband Jim all of New Bern; six grandchildren: Samantha Sheldon, Joshua Woolard, Justin Beacham and his wife Katrina, Kimberly Woolard, Abigail Rogers and Raymond Rogers, Jr.; two stepgrandchildren: Kathy Jones and her husband Curtis and Penney Lewis and two stepgreat-grandchildren: Austin Jones and Graceyn Ray.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday April 26, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
