Mrs. Shelia Dawn Southern, age 60, a resident of 706 Grimes Road, Washington, NC died Wednesday April 22, 2009 at her home.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Southern was born in Guilford County on September 29, 1948 daughter of the late Robert M. Southern, Sr. and Betty Ashworth Brazier who survives. She was a 1967 graduate of Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, NC. Mrs. Southern married Johnnie “Hawkeye” Hawkins, Jr. in the early 1980’s, although divorced remained close friends. She was a homemaker and a member of Riverview Baptist Church.
Surviving along with her mother Betty of Washington are two daughters: Michele Haywood of Conyers, GA and Wendy McClain of Pensacola, FL; a sister: Kim Dotson of Washington; a brother: Robert “Rob” Southern, Jr. of Winston Salem; three grandchildren: Joshua Haywood, Dakota McClain and Cheyenne McClain; two nieces and two nephews. Mrs. Southern was preceded in death by her step-father: Jack Brazier and a close friend: John Harper.
