Mr. Alvin McCoy Edwards, 90, a former resident of Washington died Friday May 8, 2009 in Greenwood, South Carolina.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday May 11, 2009 at Oakdale Cemetery.
Mr. Edwards was born in Beaufort County on April 6, 1919, son of the late William John Edwards and Eugenia Gertrude Mallison Edwards. On June 28, 1970, Mr. Edwards married Connie Bateman Edwards, who preceded him in death on May 18, 2006. Mr. Edwards worked in Sales. He was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church of Bear Grass and was one of the original members of the First Church of Christ of Washington, where Mr. Edwards served as Secretary/Treasurer and as a Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Edwards is survived by four daughters: Emma J. Gresham of Greenwood, S.C., Frances Jackson of Washington, Catherine L. Boyd of Pinetown and Freida Ann Edwards of Chocowinity, a son: Charles M. Edwards of Washington, a sister: Helen Whitley, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by two brothers; Carl M. Edwards and William J. Edwards Jr. and two sisters; Ola Louise Toler and Calalilly Mixon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or charity of one’s choice.
