Don E. Barham, age 80, of 101 Fairway Drive, Country Club Estates, Washington, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in the Chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with the Rev. Danny Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. J.R. Bennett, Shady Brantley, Bruce Till, Hal Younce, Keith Norwood, and Hal Parker will serve as pallbearers. Buster Humphries, Ed Younce, Richard Young, Ken Ragland, Rod Cantrell, Charles Baker, Jimmy Oakley, and Jerry Schneider will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC and at other times at the home, 101 Fairway Drive, Country Club Estates, Washington, NC.
Mr. Barham was born in Guilford County on July 5, 1928. He was the son of the late A. B. and Sudie Rorer Barham. On December 18, 1948, Don married the former Margaret Parks, who survives. He was a graduate of Haw River High School and attended Elon College, the University of Richmond, the University of Michigan and East Tennessee State University. He was employed at Burlington Industries from 1948 to 1973 and came to Washington in 1974 to work for National Spinning, retiring in 1991 as Executive Vice President.
Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Washington, the Gate City Lodge 694 AF &AM, the Thomas Matson Chapter 131 Royal Arch Mason, the Royal Order of the Moose #1800, the Committee of 100, Chairman of Beaufort County Hospital, Chairman of the Board with the Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce, and a member of Who’s Who in NC Textiles.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret Parks Barham; one son, Donald Barham and wife, Lynn of Cornelius, NC; one daughter, Sandy Nesbit and husband, Warren of Locust Grove, GA; two brothers, Bill Barham and Bob Barham; and four grandchildren, Radd and Shayna Nesbit and Carrie and Mason Barham.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Barham.
