VANCEBORO — Mr. Ernest Ervin Lewis, 85, died Sunday, May 17, 2009.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 4 pm in the Vanceboro Cemetery.
Mr. Lewis, a native of Beaufort County, lived most of his life in the Wilmar community of Craven County. He farmed all of his life and continued to farm a large garden as long as he was able.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Eula Mae Weatherington Lewis; a son, Billy Ray Lewis; and a grandson, Daniel Lloyd Lewis.
He is survived by daughters, Retha Harris of Pinetown, Jean Smith of Vanceboro, Peggy Smith of Simpson and Patricia Key of Chocowinity; sons, Danny Lewis of Chocowinity, and Alton Lewis of Vanceboro; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Carrie Wilson, of Vanceboro.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Vanceboro, and other times at the family home of Eula and Ernest Lewis.
