GREENVILLE — Friday night’s game pitting the top-seed East Carolina Pirates and fourth-seed Binghamton Bearcats was rained out.
Lightning and heavy rain prompted a handful of delays during the 2009 Greenville Regional. Officials decided to call the game around 10:15 p.m.
The Pirates (42-17) and Bearcats (29-20) will play at 10 a.m. today. The winner will face South Carolina at 6 p.m., while the loser will take on George Mason at 2 p.m.
“We just have to wait a little bit longer,” ECU coach Billy Godwin said. “We can’t control the weather. It is what it is.”
Chris Heston will still start against the Bearcats. Seth Maness will pitch in the second game.
Godwin expects his players to be ready.
“We played UCLA at 9 in the morning and it was 38 degrees,” Godwin said. “We’ve had to do some different things this year and it has prepared us. There was about a six-week schedule where we altered our schedule in about every series we played, so we’re used to altering schedules.
“These guys are pretty resilient. I think it’s going to help us because it’s going to bring our crowd back.”
South Carolina beat George Mason, 11-3, in Friday’s first regional game. That game was delayed an hour and 18 minutes because of severe weather.
